The Third Book in the Filomena Buscarsela Series: PLOT: When Fil moves in across the street from a fetid glass factory in a rundown Long Island neighborhood, her nose for trouble quickly draws her into a case full of dangerous secrets--including toxic dumping, crooked local politics, and even murder. She must also juggle the demands of raising her four-year-old daughter alone while jumping feet-first into an exciting new romance. MY COMMENTS: This is my "James M. Cain" novel--it's shorter than the others, more streamlined, and the relentless pacing admirably reflects the exhaustive frenzy in which I wrote it. Enjoy!
REVIEWS: "Mother and daughter are so appealing, and the case against an unscrupulous businessman [is] put together so compellingly, the tale keeps one reading to its bittersweet end." -- Boston Globe "Filomena Buscarsela [is] an irreverent, intrepid, Ecuadorian- born, former New York City cop with the savvy of Erin Brockovich and the stamina of Wonder Woman." -- Newsday "Riveting circumstances, a strongly focused plot, and ably described settings make this essential reading. -- Library Journal "[Filomena] is one lady clearly worth watching." -- Houston Chronicle "Filomena Buscarsela [is] a Latina heroine with the epic appeal of Everywoman.... The world's a mess, but Filomena's still fighting. It's that perspective that sets Wishnia apart--there's nothing else out there remotely like his books." -- Rocky Mountain News "Surprising, thrilling, Wishnia's narrative style is nearly perfect... Filomena's voice is tough, edgy and quite female. This is a very good book in a very good series." -- The Davis Enterprise "A hard-hitting tale of one woman's fight against the powers that be. Tough and gritty, this is a realistic story with a determined heroine." -- Romantic Times "An entertaining environmental mystery." -- Midwest Book Review "This sleuth is sharp, witty, indomitable--and interesting." --Daily Oklahoman EXCERPT: First chapter of THE GLASS FACTORY |
